Filler Correction

Are you unhappy with your last filler procedure? Have you noticed your lips appear to be a tad uneven? Well then, you have come to the right place!

Patients come to Dermacare Brickell to help correct fillers injected at other offices. Making adjustments to misplaced fillers requires expertise in facial analysis, and knowledge of facial anatomy, Dr. Michelle Barnes at Dermacare Brickell has BOTH! Possible treatments may include strategic injection of additional filler to balance the area, or precisely injecting the enzyme hyaluronidase, which is used to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers that have been placed incorrectly, unevenly or in excess.

What is filler correction

Injections of Juvederm, Restylane, and other popular dermal fillers made with HA (hyaluronic acid) can be done incorrectly or by a novice injector. This often leaves patients in the hands of an inexperienced or undertrained practitioner. In rare cases, unskilled injectors can cause serious complications to the patient’s health. More often, however, the consequences are purely cosmetic. If the practitioner does not inject the filler in the proper location or injects too much, the patient can be left with lumps and/or asymmetrical results.

What to Expect During Filler Correction

One way to correct fillers is to dissolve them. Dissolving unwanted fillers is simple, safe, and effective. It is performed using an injectable substance known as hyaluronidase. This substance is injected underneath the skin through a small needle placed in the area of the filler to be removed. To ensure comfort during the injection process, the patient sometimes requires a local anesthetic for this treatment. Thankfully, results of the treatment can be seen within minutes after injection. The hyaluronidase continues to do its work for up to three days after the procedure.

Patients who wish to have non-HA fillers removed such as Radiesse, Sculptra, and others, may be candidates to receive a steroid injection to reverse the effects to a certain extent. However, the main way to truly remove non-hyaluronic acid fillers is to allow them to be naturally absorbed by the body.

How do you fix filler mistakes

Whether you received too much hyaluronic acid filler, it appears lumpy and does not improve with massage, or your results simply don’t look right, we may be able to use the enzyme hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler.

How is filler reversed? Hyaluronic acid-based fillers, including Juvéderm and Restylane, once injected, can be reversed with injections of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Injecting this enzyme works to dissolve hyaluronic acid particles. It is only useful in dissolving hyaluronic acid-based fillers.

Is filler correction safe and effective

Yes, when performed on HA fillers, filler correction is a safe and highly effective way to remove unwanted fillers. Juvederm, Restylane, and other HA fillers can be quickly and easily dissolved using hyaluronidase. It is important to have this procedure done by a reputable, board-certified doctor with a high level of training and years of experience. You’re in luck!
